# Show Gateway status

> Returns the Gateway name, version, and status, and the release the Gateway runs from. This endpoint needs no WireGuard identity. For an active WireGuard peer it also returns `auto_release`, whether automatic releases are enabled or paused, and `desired_fleet_state`, the object `gateway:desired-fleet-state` returns, as last cached; it is null until the state is resolved and for any other caller. This endpoint never waits for Git or GitHub.
